Billboard Issues Apology to Taylor Swift for Video Mishap
Billboard magazine has issued a heartfelt apology to Taylor Swift after an oversight in their tribute to her. The publication was in the process of naming the most influential pop artists of the 21st century and placed the 34-year-old singer-songwriter in the second spot on their list. To commemorate her accomplishments, Billboard assembled a video montage of Swift's milestones but mistakenly included a segment from Kanye West’s music video for "Famous." This particular scene features a wax figure of a nude Swift alongside the infamous line, "I made that [expletive] famous."
This line sparked a significant dispute in 2016 involving Swift, West, and his former spouse Kim Kardashian. Swift contended that she had not authorized West to use that line about her. Kardashian later released what she claimed was a video conversation between Swift and West, which seemed to support the rapper's assertion. However, a different recording eventually surfaced on social media, allegedly portraying the entire conversation and appearing to substantiate Swift's account of events.
The inclusion of the "Famous" video clip led to an immediate backlash, prompting Billboard to issue an apology on social media. The statement expressed deep regret to Taylor Swift and their audience, acknowledging the error in including a misleading clip. Billboard has since removed the contentious segment from the video and expressed sincere remorse for the distress caused by their mistake.
