Billy Corgan Shares His Desire to Acquire Courtney Love's 'Violet' Lyrics at Auction
Billy Corgan has set his sights on acquiring an item his former flame, Courtney Love, is putting on the auction block. The frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins recently shared a video discussing an original copy of the "Violet" lyrics. Love is auctioning these to raise funds for the Ellis Park Wildlife Sanctuary.
"This auction has garnered quite a bit of attention lately, and I've secured my entry because I am eager to win these lyrics," he declared in the video. "I reckon it's about someone I'm somewhat acquainted with, and I'd be thrilled to have it adorn my wall."
Fans speculate that Corgan might have been the muse for the song, considering his brief romantic involvement with Love in the early '90s. Love touched upon this in a conversation with NME.
"It's not exclusively about Billy Corgan, as some may believe; it's about perching on the fire escape of his apartment, indulging in inexpensive wine and a Vicodin (oh, the folly of youth!) while the Chicago skyline dissolves into a dazzling amethyst twilight," she shared with the publication.
"Violet" debuted in 1994, courtesy of Love's band, Hole. In Corgan's video, a section bears the text: "She neglected to mention that I penned one of the poignant couplets within. Yet, I'll forever cherish this song. Love you, Court."
The auction is open until December 15.
