Chappell Roan believes she'd achieve greater success if she "kept her mouth shut."

Chappell Roan, a singer known for defying norms, asserts that “musicians are trained to be obedient.” That’s not her approach. In a recent conversation with the BBC, the 26-year-old opened up about her viral moment when she lashed out at a photographer she felt was overly aggressive at the MTV Awards. She also addressed her remarks about fans who "stalk" her parents' residence.
"I've always reacted to disrespect like this," Roan stated to the BBC. "Now, with cameras on me, and being a pop star, it doesn't quite align. It's like trying to mix oil and water." She acknowledges that her behavior and remarks can sometimes be seen in a negative light.
"I actually think I'd achieve more success if I could tolerate a muzzle," she chuckled. "If I silenced more of my instincts, those inner alarms saying, 'Stop, stop, stop, this isn't right,' I'd probably have a larger career." She continued, "I would be significantly more prominent and still touring right now."
Nevertheless, her career is thriving. Roan has secured six Grammy nominations, including best new artist, for her debut album, "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess."
She also discussed prioritizing her mental well-being, which for her, means not extending her 2024 tour. "If I don't feel like continuing, there are always alternatives," she shared with the BBC. "Opportunities are abundant. I remind myself of this constantly."
Roan remains committed to making the wisest decisions possible. "If I can reflect and say, 'I didn't buckle under expectations, nor did I tolerate abuse or coercion,' then I've remained true to myself," Roan expressed. "As I mentioned earlier, there are always alternatives.
