Chris Martin Takes a Tumble into Stage Pit During Coldplay Show in Australia

During a performance in Australia, Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin experienced a startling plunge but reappeared unscathed after falling into a stage opening. A video circulating on social media captures Martin engaging with the audience at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium on Sunday. As he strolled during a pause between tracks, he vanished unexpectedly. Someone stationed beneath the stage seemingly cushioned his fall, allowing Martin to quickly regain his footing.

“That wasn’t planned. Tremendous gratitude for catching me. Thank you, everyone,” Martin expressed. “Wow, that was almost a YouTube sensation,” he quipped. Undeterred, Martin resumed the concert, which marked the fourth and concluding show in Melbourne for Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres global tour.

The initial performance in the city was also fraught with challenges, notably the absence of bassist Guy Berryman due to a sudden illness. “Tonight marked the first instance in our band’s history of performing without all four members present,” Coldplay shared on Instagram. “Guy fell ill unexpectedly right before the show. We appreciate your support in getting us through.”

The band is slated to perform four concerts in Sydney next, followed by appearances in Auckland, New Zealand. The tour will conclude with a series of 10 shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, commencing on August 22 of the following year.

Martin’s incident echoes a recent mishap with Olivia Rodrigo at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. The American pop sensation was darting across a dimly lit stage when she abruptly fell into a gap, seemingly using her arms to prevent a complete fall.
