Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie to be a star-studded adaptation of Homer's 'The Odyssey'
Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, known for his Oscar-winning prowess, is set to transport audiences to the legendary realms of Greece in his newest cinematic endeavor. Universal Pictures disclosed this week that Nolan will helm a film adaptation of "The Odyssey," a venerable epic attributed to Homer, likely penned between 750 and 650 BCE. This narrative follows Odysseus on his arduous decade-long journey back home post-Trojan War.
The studio's announcement, shared on their X platform Monday, describes Nolan's upcoming film as "a mythic action epic," utilizing cutting-edge IMAX film technology and filmed across global landscapes. The cast reportedly includes Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson, alongside Oscar-winners Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron.
In a recent episode of "The Dish" podcast, Holland expressed enthusiasm about joining the project, though filming has yet to commence. He mentioned that Nolan had only "loosely pitched" the concept to him, leaving many aspects still shrouded in mystery. The "Spider-Man" star humorously noted the convenience studios find when he and his partner Zendaya are cast together, as it saves them the cost of a second hotel room.
Pattinson, Damon, and Hathaway are no strangers to Nolan's visionary direction, having previously starred in his works such as "Tenet," "Interstellar," and "Oppenheimer." Nolan's illustrious career also includes epics like "Inception," "The Dark Knight," and "Dunkirk." His recent triumph with "Oppenheimer" earned him the prestigious Oscar for best picture and best director.
Universal's social media revelation this week stated that "The Odyssey" will bring Homer’s "foundational saga" to IMAX screens for the first time, with a theatrical release slated for July 17, 2026.
