Conan O'Brien to Host the 97th Oscars
Conan O’Brien is set to take on the role of host for the upcoming Academy Awards. This will be the inaugural occasion for the Emmy-winning TV host and comedian to lead the Oscars.
"We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year," announced Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang on Friday. "His brilliant humor, affection for cinema, and live television prowess make him the ideal choice to guide our global film celebration. Conan's extraordinary ability to engage audiences will unite viewers for the Oscars' core mission—celebrating this year’s exceptional films and filmmakers."
O'Brien, in his characteristic fashion, quipped about the announcement. "America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme," he jested. "Oh, and by the way, I'm hosting the Oscars."
Executive producers of the Oscars, Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, remarked, "Conan embodies all the traits of a superb Oscars host—witty, charismatic, and hilariously funny, with a proven track record in live event television."
O’Brien's fame predominantly stems from his work on late-night talk shows like "Late Night with Conan O’Brien," "The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien," and "Conan." Currently, he hosts the podcast "Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend."
Jimmy Kimmel, who helmed the Academy Awards in 2017, 2018, 2023, and 2024, recently declined an offer to host for the fifth time. The 97th Oscars are scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC.
