James Van Der Beek Reveals Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis
James Van Der Beek has unveiled his struggle with a health condition. The former "Dawson's Creek" star shared with CNN on Sunday that he is battling colorectal cancer. "I've been quietly managing this diagnosis, supported by my remarkable family, and taking proactive measures to address it," he disclosed. At 47, Van Der Beek remains hopeful, stating, "There's a silver lining, and I'm feeling optimistic."
The revelation was initially reported by People magazine. According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer affects about 1 in 23 men and 1 in 25 women in the U.S. throughout their lives. On Sunday, a few hours after his public statement, Van Der Beek took to Instagram, sharing that he has been undergoing treatment and prioritizing his overall well-being with heightened dedication.
He intends to share his journey and raise awareness in his own time. However, this plan was expedited due to an impending tabloid release. "Nothing has unfolded on my preferred timeline," he reflected. "But we adapt, viewing each unexpected event as a guidepost leading us to a greater destiny shaped by divine intervention."
Van Der Beek expressed gratitude for the "love and support" received by his family and himself. He and his wife Kimberly are parents to six children. Widely recognized for his role on the teen drama "Dawson's Creek," which aired from 1998 to 2003, the actor recently appeared in an episode of "Walker" and will soon feature in the Tubi film "Sidelined: The QB and Me.
