Josh Brolin is eager for 'Dune 2' director Denis Villeneuve to receive an Oscar nod
Josh Brolin undeniably possesses a penchant for theatricality. The actor passionately advocated for "Dune: Part Two" director Denis Villeneuve to receive an Oscar nomination for best director for the sequel to the expansive sci-fi saga released this year, forewarning of drastic measures should it not materialize. "If he's not nominated this year, I'll retire from acting," Brolin declared to Variety during an interview on Thursday about his new memoir, "From Under the Truck." He expressed his belief that "Dune: Part Two" surpassed its predecessor. "Viewing it felt like my mind was being pried open. It's a masterpiece, and Denis ranks among our foremost filmmakers," Brolin remarked. "If the Academy Awards hold any significance, they must acknowledge him." Villeneuve was overlooked for a best director nomination for "Dune: Part One" upon its 2021 release, a slight Brolin hasn't forgotten. The "Avengers: Infinity War" actor embodied Gurney Halleck in both adaptations of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel. Released in February, "Dune: Part 2" earned widespread acclaim, delivering a more action-charged narrative than the methodical world-building of "Part One," which nonetheless garnered six Oscars from ten nominations. The film features Brolin, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Christopher Walken, Rebecca Ferguson, and Javier Bardem, among others. Whether Brolin's vow to exit the industry is genuine or exaggerated remains uncertain, yet his unwavering support for Villeneuve is unmistakable.
