Kevin Costner Departs from 'Yellowstone'
The destiny of Kevin Costner's John Dutton in "Yellowstone" has come to light. The much-anticipated latter half of Season 5 premiered on Sunday. The audience quickly discovers that Dutton, the family's patriarch, succumbed to a gunshot wound. Initially presumed to be a suicide, it's later unveiled as a murder orchestrated by Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), who is intimately linked with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).
In June, Costner disclosed he wouldn't be returning for the upcoming season. The actor shared this revelation in a video on Instagram. "After a lengthy year and a half devoted to 'Horizon' and all its demands, reflecting on 'Yellowstone,' the series we all cherish, I realized I can't continue with Season 5b or beyond," Costner expressed.
"Horizon: An American Saga," the first installment of Costner's envisioned film series, failed to make a significant impact at the box office. On Sirius XM’s “The Michael Smerconish Program,” Costner confessed his oblivion regarding the episode's weekend airing and his character's fate. "I found out about it just this morning," he admitted.
Costner mentioned he hasn't watched the episode but is aware of Dutton's demise, which doesn't entice him to view it. "That's their affair," he remarked. "I dedicated five seasons – never anticipated staying that long. Discussed potential exits a couple of times."
Fans of "Yellowstone" took to social media to mourn the departure of Costner's character and the manner of his exit. Cast members echoed this sentiment. "Imagining the show without him is tough. But that's always been the direction. Could these kids manage without him?" Luke Grimes, portraying Kayce Dutton, shared with The Independent.
"We knew it was inevitable, just uncertain of how or when, and it unfolded differently than expected," Grimes continued. "But it escalated the show to a peak, setting the stage for unraveling." "Yellowstone" broadcasts on Paramount and is available for on-demand purchase via Prime Video.
