Shaun White's Proposal to Nina Dobrev Was Pure Romance
Olympic snowboarding luminary Shaun White, already boasting a stellar medal collection, has now added a gold medal-worthy proposal to his accolades. On Wednesday, White and Nina Dobrev revealed their engagement on Instagram. Dobrev shared pictures of them enveloped by an arch of white roses, flaunting her dazzling five-carat Lorraine Schwartz ring.
"RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé," Dobrev humorously captioned.
Yet, the photos barely capture the intricate subterfuge White employed to surprise Dobrev with the proposal. In a Vogue interview published Wednesday, White detailed how he orchestrated an elaborate deception. He recruited confidants from their inner circle and Vogue staff to concoct a ruse, leading Dobrev to believe she was attending a private dinner with Vogue's Anna Wintour.
White arranged for his publicist to send Dobrev a faux invitation to the supposed event at the Golden Swan in New York City. Dobrev accepted, jesting about the invitation's authenticity. To enhance the illusion, White even had Dobrev's stylist outfit her in Chanel for the occasion.
Upon entering the venue and spotting White beneath the floral arch, reality dawned on Dobrev. "I went into shock," she admitted, acknowledging that White "said all the right things" before she accepted his proposal.
Post-proposal, as reported by the publication, the couple reveled with close friends and family into the early morning hours. "Best night of my life," White declared on his Instagram story.
Linked romantically since 2020, the couple has chronicled their relationship, global adventures, and White's Olympic adieu on social media.
