Stevie Nicks Wishes She Had Voted Before Turning 70
Though the outcome of a decisive win by either US presidential contender remains uncertain, singer Stevie Nicks urges citizens to exercise their voting rights. In a recent interview with MSNBC, the iconic Fleetwood Mac member disclosed that she only cast her inaugural vote approximately six years ago.
"I never voted until I was 70, but I regret that," Nicks confessed. "I've shared this onstage for the past two years. It's one of my few regrets."
Now aged 76, Nicks rejected the familiar "I don't have time" rationale, questioning, "In the grand scheme, was an hour too much? Couldn't you spare just one hour to cast your vote?"
In the current election cycle, Nicks emphasized, "Regardless of the victor, we must find a way to reinstate Roe v. Wade," alluding to the issue of abortion rights. She encouraged fellow artists to leverage their influence and voices.
"During the end of the '50s, throughout the '60s, and into the '70s, protest songs were prevalent," she noted. "Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Stephen Stills—they all did it. I urge my fellow musical poets to compose songs reflecting current events, as I have done.
