Ted Danson Apologizes to Kelsey Grammer for Long-Standing Dispute from 'Cheers' Era
Ted Danson is proving that it’s never too late to utter the words, “I’m sorry.”. In the latest episode of his Sirius XM podcast, Danson extended an apology to his former "Cheers" co-star, Kelsey Grammer, for allowing a long-standing disagreement to hinder their camaraderie.
Danson expressed to Grammer, who joined him on "Where Everybody Knows Your Name with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson (sometimes)," that he harbored some resentment during their "Cheers" tenure. "I recall getting upset with you once," he admitted.
Although he didn't delve into specifics about the incident that irked him, Grammer acknowledged his recollection of the event. "Indeed, you mentioned it to me one day," Grammer recounted.
"It lingers in our memories," Danson reflected. "I feel I missed three decades of Kelsey Grammer, and it's my fault, my doing. I apologize to you. And to myself for standing back… I truly apologize.". Grammer, with a smile, expressed gratitude for the apology, voicing his regret that they hadn't spent more time together over the years. It appears bygones are now bygones.
"My affection for you has always been as natural as daylight," Grammer declared. "As effortless as the sunrise.". Danson, famously known as Sam Malone on the cherished NBC series "Cheers" from 1982 to 1993, shared the screen with Grammer, who played Dr. Frasier Crane from 1984 to 1993. The ensemble cast also included Rhea Pearlman, Woody Harrelson, Shelley Long, and John Ratzenberger, among others.
Following "Cheers," Grammer reprised his role in the successful spinoff "Frasier," which aired from 1993 until 2004 and was revived in 2023 on Paramount+. The second season was released in September.
