Tom Hanks Reverses Time in 'Here,' Yet Embraces His Current Stage in Life
In the film "Here," digital wizardry is employed to rejuvenate actors Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, rendering them youthful on screen. However, Hanks, at 68, embraces his advancing years with no qualms. Prior to the movie's debut at AFI Fest in Los Angeles, the venerable actor shared his thoughts with People magazine.
"It's refreshing to appear youthful," he remarked. "Being young again, not as much."
The movie reunites Hanks and Wright, famed for their collaboration in the 1994 classic "Forrest Gump." In this new venture, they portray characters at various stages of life, a project Hanks described as "quirky."
"This was the gimmicky part," he explained. "You could achieve this with conventional makeup, but with this rapid computer filter, we bypass post-production to witness our younger selves instantly."
Despite the novelty, Hanks acknowledged certain complexities.
"The real challenge, both physically and spiritually, arises when Richard and Margaret, the characters in 'Here,' are 35 and 42. That's when aging subtly begins, and suddenly, leaping off a couch isn't effortless," he noted. "Yet, you're still not at a stage where life completely decelerates."
He concluded, "I prefer my current age."
"Here" arrives in theaters on Friday.
